The Organizing Committee of the Cheongju Craft Biennale ("Biennale Committee" hereafter; Chairperson Lee Beomseok, Mayor of Cheongju) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the localization expert group Culture Flipper Korea ("Culture Flipper” hereafter; CEO Hwajung Sophia Lee).

Having teamed up in the last Biennale in 2021, the two parties reenter their partnership for the second time in order to better serve audiences around the world interested in the event, which is the first and the largest of its kind in the craft industry.

In the spirit of this partnership, the Biennale Committee will share ideas with Culture Flipper in planning official events and diverse promotional activities. In turn, Culture Flipper will promise its full cooperation and participation to make the event a huge success. The Biennale is an integral part of Culture Flipper’s art project component, and only the highest quality translation for published content and other knowledge-based materials will be presented. The partnership between the two organizations is expected to branch out into other areas.

"Languages may differ, but craft is a common denominator for all humanity. We hope that language barriers do not hinder anyone anywhere in the world from enjoying craft arts. To that end, we're working with Culture Flipper to globalize the Biennale’s works," a member of the Biennale Committee said.

Culture Flipper was launched in 2017 as a Silicon Valley startup with expertise in taking elements from one culture and making them relevant in another across North America, Central America and Europe. In 2018, Culture Flipper Korea was established to anchor its operations in Asia, serving to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps between Northeast and Southeast Asian countries and the rest of the world. Currently, the company is planning to expand further in Southeast Asia and into India. At Culture Flipper, translators, writers and subject matter experts work together to create tailored, stylish localized content. They go beyond mere translation to breathe new life into the creative intent on a global scale. The creative work they do and the Fortune 500 clients they serve continue to fuel the company's growth.

Through this renewed partnership, the creative intent and innovative spirit of the artists participating in the 2023 Cheongju Craft Biennale will be wholly conveyed to inspire audiences. In doing so, the Biennale's mission and prestige in the international community will continue to reach new heights. Titled "The Geography of Objects: Living in the Net of Biophilia," the 2023 Cheongju Craft Biennale will be held at Culture Factory from September 1 to October 15.
