The Korean remake "Hear Me: Our Summer," which hits theaters early November, maintains the premise of a food delivery boy encountering the world of the hearing-impaired and falling in love, but presents a few notable differences from the original. The two sisters get a seasonal name makeover, Summer (여름) and Autumn (가을), which is referenced in the English subtitle. And the birth order is switched, perhaps so that Korean viewers can better relate to Summer (Roh Yoon-seo) as the eldest daughter who devotes herself to caring for her younger sibling (Kim Min-ju), a hearing-impaired aspiring Deaflympics swimmer. When Yong-jun (Hong Kyung) falls for Summer, she is torn between the exhilaration of young love and the burden of responsibility toward her sister.
Director Jo Seon-ho further emphasizes the original film’s themes of self discovery, pursuing dreams, and breaking down barriers while staying true to the feel-good rom-com tone as well as the use of sign language as the main means of communication among the characters.
